The Whores All Seem to Love Him

The whores all seem to love Him
And the drunks propose a toast
And they say, “Surely God is with us.
Well, surely God is with us.”
They say, “Surely God is with us today!”

– Rich Mullins

I have to wonder what his initial reaction was early that resurrection morning. I venture to say that he and all of heaven was pumped. How do you contain yourself after being reunited with your most prized possession? If there is much rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents, how much more rejoicing must there have been over the one righteous man going out to save all those whores and drunkards?

When the disciples recognized him, they jumped out of the boat and swam toward him. Meanwhile, Jesus seemingly played it cool on the shoreline. Still, I bet that deep inside he wanted to jump into (or run across) the water to meet them. It was for the joy set before him that he had endured the cross.  Finally, it was finished.  See? He was, is, and continues to make all things new.

I have to think that there was something of a grin that came upon his face early on that third day. Any kind of victory is cause for celebration. And, as He sat there in that tomb having just defeated death, I imagine that his smile combined with something of a fist pump.

Good had triumphed over evil. The soiled were provided a way to be made clean.
