Broken for me

I was sitting closest to the aisle and it was the first Sunday of the month, so it was time for communion. The elder passed me the bread and looked straight into my eyes and said, “The body of Christ, broken for you”.

People tend to focus on how large their ministry is and how many facebook friends they have and numbers and groups. Sometimes it feels like your social security number, body fat percentage and amount in your savings account is more important than your name. We often say that it is a small world, but there are a lot of invisible faces in the crowd and it is a big world too.

I’m glad that I was sitting on the aisle. It was a personal reminder that Jesus didn’t just come into the world to save the world, but He also came into the world to save me. It’s not John 3:16, but I think it sums up the message of the gospel pretty well:

The body of Christ. Broken. For me.
